# Jira pricing explained, and a simpler option

> Jira Cloud has four plans (as of October 2026): Free for up to 10 users, Standard from about $8 per user per month, Premium from about $15 per user per month, and Enterprise on a quote. The per-user rate falls as a team grows, so Atlassian's calculator gives the exact figure. For a small team whose Claude does the work, Projectify Team is $10 per user per month billed yearly, with AI agents free.

## Jira's plans at a glance

Prices as of October 2026, in US dollars per user per month for Jira Cloud. Sources: [Atlassian's Jira pricing page](https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/pricing) and [resolution.de's 2026 breakdown](https://www.resolution.de/post/jira-pricing-plans/). Atlassian prices by user tier, so a larger team pays less per user; small teams pay about the rates below.

| Plan | Price | What it adds |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free | $0, up to 10 users | Boards, backlogs, basic reports, 2 GB storage |
| Standard | From about $8 | User roles and permissions, more storage, business-hours support |
| Premium | From about $15 | Planning across teams, sandboxes, higher limits, an uptime SLA, round-the-clock support for critical issues |
| Enterprise | Quote, yearly | Multiple sites, enterprise security and analytics |

Prices change and third-party sites disagree by a few cents, so check the calculator for your team size before you budget.

## The Free plan

Jira Free covers up to 10 users with the core of Jira: Scrum and Kanban boards, backlogs, basic workflows and reports. What it lacks is control: no user roles or project permissions, limited storage and community support only. For a small team trying Jira, it is a real plan, not a demo.

## Standard

Standard is the plan most teams buy. It adds user roles and permissions, more storage and automation runs, and business-hours support. It is where Jira's configurable workflows and permission schemes start to pay off.

## Premium

Premium is for organisations planning across several teams: planning and dependencies across projects, sandbox environments, higher automation limits and an uptime SLA.

## Rovo and AI

Atlassian's AI, Rovo, brings search, chat and agents across Jira and Confluence. It is included on paid plans with monthly credits per user, and the Rovo MCP Server lets outside assistants such as Claude search, create, edit and transition issues. Check Atlassian's pages for the current credit allowances: they have changed through 2026.

## What a team pays on Jira

At about $8 per user per month on Standard, a team of 10 pays about $960 a year and a team of 20 about $1,920. Premium roughly doubles that. Add-ons from the Atlassian Marketplace are priced separately, often per user, and many teams also pay for Confluence.

## Hidden costs to plan for

- **Marketplace apps.** Time tracking, test management and diagrams are often apps with their own per-user prices.
- **Confluence.** Most Jira teams want it, and it is a separate product.
- **Administration.** Workflows, schemes and custom fields need someone to own them.
- **Every licensed user is billed**, whether or not they log in that month.

## How to keep a Jira bill down

- **Bill yearly** once you know your team size: Atlassian discounts annual plans, and the rate per user falls with every user tier.
- **Stay on Free while you are 10 or fewer**, if you can live without user roles and project permissions.
- **Audit Marketplace apps** every quarter. Many are billed for every user on the site, not just the people who use them.
- **Deactivate leavers promptly.** Licences are counted per user, active or not.
- **Check Rovo credits against use.** If the team does not use Atlassian's AI, there is nothing to buy; if it does, know the monthly allowance before a busy month.

## Jira or a simpler option?

Jira is the right choice for an organisation with process to encode: many teams, their own workflows, permission schemes and audit needs, Confluence next to it. For a team of 3 to 20 where Claude writes much of the code, it is often more than the work needs, and it still treats the agent as an integration that can edit issues.

[Linear](/compare/linear) is the common lighter choice for software teams, at $10 per user per month billed yearly. Projectify costs the same as Linear Basic and is built for teams whose agents do real work:

| | Jira Standard | Projectify Team |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Price | From about $8 per user per month | $10 per user per month yearly, $12 monthly |
| Free plan | Up to 10 users | Solo: one person, every feature |
| Setup | Workflows and schemes to configure | Connect Claude in a minute |
| AI | Rovo, with credits per user | Your own Claude; agents never take a seat |
| Agents claim work with a lease | No | Yes |
| Claude Code workers that open PRs | No | Yes, the fleet |

The fleet is the difference: `projectify fleet` runs Claude Code workers on your machine that take ready tasks, each in its own worktree, and open pull requests, with a Coordinator that answers questions within your policy and a Reviewer on every PR.
