CompareClaude Task Master

Claude Task Master vs Projectify tasks in a repo, or a board for a team.

Task Master, the open-source CLI and MCP server published as task-master-ai, parses a PRD into tasks, tells your agent which task is next and expands a task into subtasks, all kept in a .taskmaster folder in your repo. Projectify is a hosted board a team and its Claude share, with claims, one queue, decisions, handoffs and a fleet of Claude Code workers. Here is where each is the better choice.

Projectify

$10Solo free; Team $10 per user per month billed yearly, $12 monthly

Projectify is better when

Several people or sessions share the plan.

  • A claim with a 30-minute lease keeps two sessions off the same task; files in a repo cannot do that across branches and machines.
  • Every session starts briefed with the project rules and the last handoff, and decisions keep their alternatives.
  • The fleet runs Claude Code workers that take ready tasks and open pull requests, with a Coordinator and a Reviewer.
  • People who do not open a terminal use the web app on any device.

Claude Task Master is better when

One developer, one repo, free.

  • You want tasks generated from a PRD and kept as files in the repo.
  • You work in Cursor, Windsurf or Claude Code and want one MCP server that says what is next.
  • You want it free and open source (MIT with Commons Clause), with no account.

Honest first

Task Master is the better tool for one developer who wants a free, local task list that lives next to the code and works in Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code and other editors. This page is for the team, or the person running several sessions, who needs the plan shared.

Claude Task Master and Projectify, answered.

What is Claude Task Master?

An open-source task manager for AI coding, by Eyal Toledano, published on npm as task-master-ai. It parses a PRD into tasks, finds the next task and expands tasks into subtasks, through a CLI and an MCP server that Claude Code, Cursor and other editors can use. It can run its AI calls through Claude Code without a separate API key.

Is Task Master AI free?

Yes. It is open source under MIT with Commons Clause. You pay only for the AI calls it makes, through your own API keys or your Claude Code plan.

Can I use Task Master and Projectify together?

You can, but you would have two lists of tasks. Most teams pick one: Task Master for a solo, file-based list in the repo, Projectify when people and several sessions share the plan.

What happens when two agents want the same task?

The first one claims it. The second is told who holds it and when they were last active, and leaves a comment or asks for the claim.

What is the fleet?

An optional auto mode for Claude Code. Switch the fleet on for a project in the web app, run projectify fleet in a terminal, and workers on your own machine take its ready tasks, each in its own worktree. Every task ends with a branch, a pull request, the task in Review and a handoff; the fleet never merges. Risky steps wait for your approval in Needs you. It comes with the projectify plugin: run /projectify:setup once. How it runs

Do my agents need their own seats?

No. An agent acts for a person and shows as "Claude for Noor". You pay for people, not for the assistants they already pay for.
